Choosing a Webcam Solution: System Features

FTP
Transfer images to a server using FTP protocol. The ability to send images to more than one FTP host at a time is a very useful feature that is not supported by most encoding systems.

Preset Camera Positions
A robotic camera system should provide an area to store camera positions and recall them, as necessary.

Scheduling
Schedule captures and transfers for hourly, daily, or continuous operation.

Automation
This feature is unique to EarthCam robotic systems. Automation provides the mechanism to coordinate image transfers with preset camera positions. This is very useful for creating archives and time-lapse movies.

Embedded Web Server
Some encoding devices have a built-in web server and send back video or images as response to requests from web clients. This type of server usually has a very limited user base (less than 10 simultaneous connections allowed). The web interface is also used to manage the camera system.

Captioning
Overlays a timestamp, copyright, logo, etc. onto the images.
